BUMBERSHOOT
Each year, thousands of people from across the country flock to Seattle Center to attend this acclaimed festival, which has become one of the biggest and most-loved contemporary festivals in North America, while having maintained its Northwest spirit and innovative roots. Since 1972, Bumbershoot has been a multi-disciplinary arts festival showcasing the best of comedy, dance, film, literary arts, music, performing arts, theatre, visual arts and more. Spanning the Seattle Center grounds, a campus originally created for the 1962 World’s Fair, Bumbershoot has continued its legacy of celebrating innovation.
CONCEPT
As of recent years the Bumbershoot logo has stayed the same but the art direction and branding for each year's event has been accompanied by several different palettes and design choices. I took this opportunity to show what I might do for this year's festival.
When in Seattle, one can't help but notice the city's beauty. I chose to focus on 2 elements that inspire me 1.) the awe-inspiring city lights that fill the streets and 2.) the clouds that make our city gray for more than 6 months out of the year. Accompanied by a high contrast palette and flat design, I chose to base my direction off of these 2 elements.
